James Sargen is the founder and board chair of TriActive America and has served on the Foundation Board since 2002. Sargen has served in many capacities on the Foundation board, including Chairman, Chair of the Audit Committee, and Chair of the Finance Committee. In these roles, he was instrumental in guiding the Foundation to its status as an innovator and leader in increasing resources, efficiency, and effectiveness for the California Community Colleges. He also previously served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Cuesta Community College Foundation and the President's Cabinet at California Polytechnic State University, and received the 2012 Louis Tedone, M.D. Humanitarian Award for his extensive volunteer and charitable efforts while serving in leadership roles with the French Hospital Medical Center Foundation, Performing Arts Center, Cuesta College Foundation, YMCA, and Cal Poly. He was also awarded the Network of California Community College Foundations’ “Philanthropist of the Year” in 2001.
Sargen attended the College of San Mateo and City College of San Francisco and earned bachelor of arts and master of arts degrees in urban studies at San Francisco State University.
