The Bernard Osher Foundation's recent $70 million gift to California Community College students—the largest to any community college system in the nation and one of the largest to higher education—serves to remind us all of the incredibly valuable and unique role that Community Colleges play in California’s higher education system. California’s 110 Community Colleges provide affordable and accessible educational opportunities for all. Today, the system serves more than 2.76 million students each year, offers associate's degrees and a pathway to four-year and graduate degrees, and supplies the workforce that sustains our economy. For all these reasons and more, our Community Colleges and our students are a cause worthy of our support.
