Annual photo competition for California Community College students launched today
College Seen contest showcases students’ photography talents
SACRAMENTO – April 26, 2010 – The Foundation for California Community Colleges has launched its annual “College Seen” photo contest, which invites eligible students to vie for the opportunity to win cash, software and other awards by submitting images depicting their experiences as community college students.
Any student enrolled at a California Community College campus who is at least 18 can submit photographs into the contest now through June 30 at www.collegeseen.org. One grand prize winner, who will be announced in late August, will be selected to receive a $500 cash prize, Adobe© Creative Suite ® 5, Design Premium, and a feature in Affinity, the magazine for California Community Colleges.
Additionally, winners will be selected in a variety of specific categories which include campus experience, campus elements, career preparation/work experience, and technology and learning, among others. Category winners also will receive Adobe CS 5 and mention in Affinity.
Past contest winners have been selected based on a number of factors, among them the creative portrayal of the community college experience. The 2009 winning photograph, captured by West Hills Community College student Pedro Trevino, is an image of Trevino’s sister studying into the night while her young daughter sleeps in her arms, offering a glimpse of the delicate balance of work, family and education that many community college students have to strike.
“California Community College students have a unique and powerful story to tell, and this contest provides one channel for them to share that story in a visual format. The Foundation is proud to provide this opportunity for students to showcase their talents while illustrating the every-day experiences and elements they encounter as community college students,” said Dr. Paul Lanning, President and CEO of the Foundation.
The College Seen photo contest is sponsored by the Foundation for California Community Colleges and its CollegeBuys purchasing program, with software prizes provided by Adobe. Full contest details and guidelines are available at www.collegeseen.org.
