Supporting Community College Real Estate Education

The California Community College Real Estate Education Endowment provides financial support to enhance real estate education in the California Community Colleges. The goal of this program is to increase the number of real estate practitioners who are able to enroll in real estate education courses at the community colleges.

The Real Estate Endowment is a permanent fund established by the State of California Real Estate Commissioner in 1975. For over 35 years, the Chancellor’s Office managed the fund and executed all necessary activities in coordination with a Real Estate Advisory Board and the Department of Real Estate. The Foundation took over administrative responsibilities of the Endowment in July of 2015. The Foundation oversees management and investment, as well as the day-to-day activities required in managing the endowment.

Primary activities include:

  • The maintenance, development, and improvement of real estate courses, degrees, and certificates
  • The maintenance and support of a scholarship program for worthy and disadvantaged students enrolled in real estate career-oriented programs.

Improving real estate education

Endowment funding helps support the maintenance, development, and improvement of Real Estate courses, degrees, and certificates. This work occurs through the California Community Colleges Real Estate Education Center, housed at Saddleback College. The Real Estate Education Center actively promotes quality real estate education in the state’s community colleges. The Center works with instructors to ensure quality instruction. It also actively encourages and supports students seeking vocational real estate and appraisal education.

Real Estate Endowment Fund Scholarship Program

The Foundation is committed to supporting students to pursue careers in real estate. This scholarship fund supports students in good academic standing who need financial assistance to help afford enrollment costs in California Community College real estate education programs. The opportunity is open to students who are either pursuing a major in Real Estate or, if a Real Estate major isn’t offered by their college, a major in Business Administration with a concentration in Real Estate. The total amount available for scholarships is limited to the amount of interest income generated by the Real Estate Education Endowment Fund. It is estimated that approximately $30,000 will be available for 2016-2017, which will fund approximately 35-55 scholarships statewide.
