  • Making an Effective Purchasing Change in a Changing World
    Presenter: Mike Kolodisner
    This presentation will cover the reasons why dealing with change is a regular part of purchasing operations. It will discuss analyzing and evaluating potential changes so they support organizational objectives. It will also discuss the most effective ways to make change happen through communication, persuasion, and measurement.
  • Building Relationships in Today's Multi-Generational Workforce
    Presenter: Kathy Espinoza
    This session will show how to work effectively with each of the four generations present in today’s workforce. Kathy Espinoza will show how to accentuate the positives that each generation brings to the workforce and how to motivate each group by matching the perks to the person.
  • Legal Issues in Procurement
    Presenter: Martin A. Hom
    Martin A. Hom will provide a general overview of the public contracting process and discuss potential contract issues for purchasing agents, including risk shifting clauses, common mistakes, and a discussion on the procurement of technology. There will also be a discussion on new laws for 2016 that effect community college district purchasing.
  • Cooperative Purchasing: Success Stories
    Presenters: Ben Cayabyab, Annette Perez, Pam Grey
    In this session, a panel of community college district representatives will discuss their experience with the Foundation contract and why it remains a viable procurement option.
  • Building Department Efficiencies: An Introduction to LEAN Workshop
    Presenters: Sean Cason, Jackie Rodriguez
    This session will discuss UC Riverside’s Vision and Implementation Strategy of LEAN Six Sigma in an educational environment. There will be a review of the tools/methods used, and the positive impacts on UC Riverside’s LEAN culture. The session will detail the struggles UC Riverside has experienced and provide some best practices for how to implement LEAN into other organizations.
  • Intersegmental Higher Education Panel
    Presenters: Michael Redmond, Cathy O’Sullivan, JC Sales, Jeremy Meadows, Adrian Ferreira, Majd S. Askar
    This session explores how the California Community Colleges can optimize cost savings and realize best value by collaborating with the California Higher Education Shared Services Initiative (CHESS). This partnership allows the systems to work together and draw on their combined size, resources, talents, and capabilities, to reinvigorate the state’s commitment to higher education.
  • Procurement Town Hall
    Presenters: JC Sales, Alan Moloney, Mina Hernandez, Sue Harrison
    Members of the recently launched CollegeBuys Advisory Subgroup for Legislation and Shared Procurement will share their successes and and current initiatives. The panel will discuss their goals for 2016 such as enhancing best value legislation, expanding current contract vehicles, as well as developing protocols for California Community College participation in CHESS.
  • Unlocking the Door to Student Success
    Presenter: Stephanie O'Brien
    Stephanie O’Brien will explore the relationship between project budgeting, product selections, and student success. This will be an interactive session where attendees will share their knowledge and ideas on how to improve student success through effective procurements.

  • Before Disaster Strikes: Third-Party Vendor Contracts
    Presenter: Christopher Fallon
    This presentation will walk through the typical provisions in vendor contracts, show the potential pitfalls, share secrets for how to best protect a district, and provide options for dealing with vendors who refuse to negotiate contract language.
