Tim Bonnel was one of California's most respected leaders in student financial aid advocacy, with a particular interest in helping foster youth students achieve a college education. Tim was the Coordinator of Student Financial Assistance Programs in the Chancellor’s Office for seventeen years and devoted his entire working life to higher education access for students. He was instrumental in the creation and implementation of the Foster Youth Success Initiative, which resulted in the hiring of foster youth liaisons at every California community college. For his efforts on this joint project by the FoundationCCC and Chancellor’s Office, Tim received special commendation from the California State Senate. Tim passed away in January 2022.
To honor Tim’s extraordinary service, the Foundation for California Community Colleges in partnership with the California Community College Student Financial Aid Administrators Association and Tim’s children, Sarah Brockmeyer and William Bonnel, have established a scholarship in Tim’s memory benefiting foster youth. You can honor Tim and his extraordinary legacy by giving to the Tim Bonnel Memorial Scholarship today.
