Improving air quality in California.

The Replace Your Ride program helps people trade in their older, high polluting vehicles for a more fuel-efficient option. Options include: a new or newer vehicle, a hybrid or electric vehicle, discounts on car-sharing or vanpooling, or a public transit pass. This program is created for vehicle owners in the South Coast Air Basin who meet the income eligibility requirements.

Get Started in Four Steps

1. Check eligibility

Consumers should review the full eligibility details and criteria to see if they qualify before starting an application. The replacement options they qualify for depend on income level, with some options only available to low-income households.

2. Complete an application

The application is available online, or consumers can download a copy to print and submit by mail or fax. Case managers are available to answer questions, and bilingual assistance is available.

3. Select replacement

Consumers can choose a newer and more fuel-efficient vehicle, hybrid or electric, transit pass, or ride share discount. Replacement options depend on several factors, including income eligibility, lifestyle, financing availability, and where the participant lives.

4. Attend an event

Replace Your Ride weekend events are a convenient way for participants to get their vehicle smog tested, receive a program eligibility voucher, and get started with the replacement process. Case managers will be available to answer any questions and address concerns.
