Relief Funding for Californians Affected by the Pandemic

The Golden State Education and Training Grant Program is a relief funding program established by the California Student Aid Commission (CSAC) in partnership with the Foundation for California Community Colleges (FoundationCCC) to support individuals who lost their jobs during the COVID-19 pandemic. Eligible individuals can receive $2,500 to pursue education or training programs that will help them reskill and re-enter the workforce. The program is designed to encourage and support individuals who suffered job loss due to COVID-19 to enter, continue, and complete college and job training programs.

The California Student Aid Commission (CSAC) intends for awards to be $2,500.

What are the eligibility requirements?

To be eligible for the Golden State Education and Training Grant Program (GSETGP), a student must:

  • Have lost their job due to the COVID-19 pandemic
  • Have not been able to find an equivalent paying job since
  • Not have been enrolled in an education or training program at the time of their job loss
  • Meet the income and asset requirements associated with Cal Grant A eligibility

Do students have to be enrolled full time in for-credit instruction?

No. Students need to be enrolled but there is neither a minimum unit requirement nor a satisfactory academic progress requirement. Noncredit students are eligible for the grant and encouraged to apply.

How do I apply?

The Golden State Education and Training Grant Program is now accepting applications from Californians who meet the program's eligibility requirements, including both the overarching criteria and the income and asset requirements for Cal Grant A eligibility. 

Education and Training Ambassadors and Network Activation Partners

To reach eligible applicants, FoundationCCC and CSAC are recruiting Education and Training Ambassadors and community-based Education and Training Network Activation Partners.

Education and Training Ambassadors Program: Student advocates can now apply to become an Education and Training Ambassador and conduct direct outreach in their communities to increase awareness, enrollment, and access to the Golden State Education and Training Grant Program. Ambassadors will be trained on effective outreach strategies for their communities and will have the opportunity to earn a stipend of throughout the five month service term (May 2023-September 2023). Education and Training Network Activation Partners: FoundationCCC is seeking out community-based partner organizations across the state with influence and outreach capabilities to help raise awareness of the Golden State Education and Training Grant Program among regional populations. California organizations with large existing networks and able to provide a W-9 are encouraged to apply and may be eligible for grants ranging in various sizes. If your organization is interested in learning more about the grant opportunity and the application process, please submit an interest form, and/or register to attend the virtual informational session on April 18, 2023 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. PST.
