Laurie Honda is the Director of User Experience for the Student Centered Design Lab at FoundationCCC.
Laurie is a dynamic UX team leader, strategist, and mixed methods researcher. At the Student Centered Design Lab, Laurie excels in business development, end-to-end project management, and enhancing community college students’ technology experiences. With more than 15 years of experience, Laurie thrives in cross-functional roles, leading teams for startups, corporations, and nonprofits. She is also an award-winning author and researcher.
- Guiding multi-organizational adoption and operationalization of equitable, cross-functional student-centered design processes.
- Leading development of UX strategies and metrics, and implementation of design ideation activities, workshops, and sprints; both mixed methods and multi-modal user research; and content strategy.
- Coached and developed award-winning educational technology content about the Student Centered Design Lab’s creation.
Prior to joining FoundationCCC, Laurie was the Director of Marketing and Communications at Pili Hunters, where she increased sales ten-fold, landed the company on Shark Tank, and redesigned an SEO-driven Shopify website. Previously, Laurie was a tenure-track faculty member at the University of Oregon, where she was a founding member of the university-wide, interdisciplinary Working Group for Active Teaching & Learning. Additionally, Laurie taught several undergraduate and graduate courses in marketing, advertising, public relations, and social media strategy at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, and High Point University
Laurie holds a Ph.D. in media and communications from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, an M.A. in advertising from the University of Texas, Austin, and a B.S. in marketing from the University of Mary Washington.
