Mark Weidinger

Director, Smog Check Referee Program Operations

Mark Weidinger is the Director of Smog Check Referee Program Operations at FoundationCCC.

Mark is responsible for the primary leadership and management of the Bureau of Automotive Repair (BAR) Smog Check Referee Program. He joined FoundationCCC in 2004 and has served as the Director of Smog Check Referee Program Operations since 2015. He has 33 years of experience in the BAR Smog Check Referee Program, with over 20 years in program leadership roles.

FoundationCCC Highlights

  • Redesigned and implemented the Student Technician Training Program (STTP), which has provided invaluable, real-world, paid-training experience to hundreds of automotive students and future technicians across California. Over 25% of current Smog Check Referees are past graduates of the STTP.  
  • Spearheaded several high-level contract negotiations which resulted in securing consecutive multi-year contracts valued at over $77 million.   
  • As a program leader, has instilled a culture of innovation, collaboration, communication, shared leadership, accountability, and career advancement.  

Mark’s expertise began as a technician, shop foreman, and manager in the automotive repair and emissions testing industry. In 1990, Mark joined the BAR Smog Check Referee Program where he continually advanced in his career by holding positions as a Referee, Station Manager, Projects Manager, and Region Manager. He has earned the ASE Master Technician certification and has continuously maintained his BAR smog check and repair certifications for over 40 years. 

Mark is a proud alum of the California Community Colleges, earning an A.S. in automotive technology from Cuyamaca College. He also holds a B.S. in business administration from California State University, Fresno.
