Individuals Who May be Eligible for SSI/SSP and/or CAPI
If you were an active SSI/SSP/CAPI recipient and received an SSI/SSP/CAPI payment during the month of March 2021, you will get a one-time supplemental $600 payment.
A $600 paper check will be mailed to you.
Paper checks will be mailed weekly by zip code starting on May 24, 2021. See the schedule below to find out when you can expect your check.

Checks will be mailed to the address on file in the month of March 2021. Please call 1.866.312.3100 to update your address if it is different from what it was in March 2021. Please note that the address update will not impact the address for your program status, just for this one-time payment.
No, when we update the address on file, this will only affect the delivery of this one time payment. To update your address for your program, please contact your local program office, and/or case worker.
You must decide where you would like your check mailed if you do not have an address on file. Please call 1.866.312.3100 to tell us where you would like your check mailed.
No, you do not need to apply. You will get a payment if you were an active SSI/SSP/CAPI recipient and got an SSI/SSP/CAPI payment in March 2021.
No, the payment will not count as income and will not count toward the SSI/SSP resource limit of $2,000 for an individual or $3,000 for a couple.
If you only get SSDI, and do not get SSI/SSP, you will not receive a Golden State Grant payment. SSDI recipients were not included in the Golden State Grant program.
Public Resources: Golden State Grant (GSG) Program
Payments are intended to provide financial relief for Californians who may have been impacted by the economic disruptions resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic.
You may have received a call from the California Department of Social Services on April 2, 2021 informing you of the payment.
Eligibility for both programs is determined by SSA using federal criteria. Our call center cannot determine eligibility nor provide eligibility related questions to your case.
A one-time payment of $600 to SSI/SSP/CAPI recipients. Benefits are in the form of cash assistance, and the one-time payment will arrive as a paper-check.

CAPI is a 100 percent state-funded program designed to provide monthly cash benefits to aged, blind, and disabled non-citizens who are ineligible for SSI/SSP solely due to their immigrant status.
- Meet all other SSI/SSP eligibility criteria except for immigration status
- Be age 65 or older, blind, or disabled,
- Be a resident of California,
- Have resources below the allowable limits of $2,000 for an individual or $3,000 for a couple, and
- Have income less than the CAPI standards
- Be a non-citizen and meet the immigration status criteria in effect for SSI/SSP as of 8/21/96.
- Be ineligible for SSI/SSP solely due to immigration status. This means a CAPI applicant must apply for SSI/SSP, or submit other proof of ineligibility from the Social Security Administration.

Payments do not impact CalWORKs or CalFresh eligibility or benefits.
We cannot reissue a check to a different payee, at this time. You will need to work with your case worker to assist in cashing your check.
If your check has been damaged, we’re able to re-issue you a check, we will ask you to verify personal information. Please call 1.866.312.3100 for check replacements.
We suggest you try and deposit the check in person or through an ATM, if the check was refused by an ATM, try depositing the check in person. Please call 1.866.312.3100 if the check is still rejected.
Only the person the check is made out to can cash the check. If the recipient is a child or facility please work with your case worker for assistance.
