Real Estate Endowment Fund Scholarship Program header

Supporting Community College Real Estate Education

The Real Estate Education Endowment is a permanent fund established by the State of California Real Estate Commissioner in 1975. For over 35 years, the California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office managed the fund and executed all necessary activities in coordination with a Real Estate Advisory Board and the Department of Real Estate. The Foundation for California Community Colleges (FoundationCCC) took over administrative responsibilities of the endowment in July of 2015. FoundationCCC oversees management and investment as well as the day-to-day activities required in managing the endowment.

Primary activities supported by the Real Estate Education Endowment include:

  • Grants in support of projects that promote, enhance, or advance the proficiency of real estate practitioners through real estate courses provided by California community colleges, in alignment with the priority needs of the field.
  • The maintenance and support of a scholarship program for students enrolled in real estate career-oriented programs.

Real Estate Education Grants Program

Real estate education grants are intended to fund projects for the improvement and development of real estate education.

Current and Past Grantees

Since 1975, annual grants typically have been awarded to a community college hosting the Real Estate Education Center. The Center transfers between colleges when a new grantee is selected through a competitive process. For the past five years, Saddleback College has been the recipient of the grant and host of the Center. The Real Estate Education Center actively promotes quality real estate education in California’s community colleges. The Center works with instructors to ensure quality instruction and actively encourages and supports students seeking vocational real estate and appraisal education.

2021 Grant Program Updates and Application Guidelines

The 2021 Real Estate Education Grants Program provides an opportunity for applicants to propose projects that promote, enhance, or advance the proficiency of real estate practitioners through real estate courses provided by California community colleges, in alignment with the priority needs of the field. Funding may be used to support a Center or other project that meets the goals of the program. Up to $103,000 in total grant funds will be awarded in 2021, and there may be an opportunity for the 2021 grantee to be renewed for up to three years.

Applicants should consider how they can achieve the Department of Real Estate’s intended outcomes:

  • Development of innovative programs, processes, or products designed to enrich the effectiveness of real estate education in community colleges
  • Encouragement of real estate education cooperative and coordination activities by a community college or district with other institutions of higher education
  • Development and improvement of communications between the real estate industry and the community colleges
  • Promotion of community college real estate education programs

Applications were due on Friday, April 9, 2021 and are no longer being accepted for the 2021 grants cycle.

Real Estate Education Endowment Scholarship Program

FoundationCCC is committed to supporting students pursuing careers in real estate. This scholarship fund supports students in good academic standing who need financial assistance to help afford enrollment costs in California Community College real estate education programs. The opportunity is open to part-time and full-time students who are either pursuing a major in real estate or, if a real estate major isn’t offered by their college, a major in business administration with a concentration in real estate. The total amount available for scholarships annually is determined by the amount of interest income generated by the Real Estate Education Endowment.
