Building a Statewide Movement Around Work-Based Learning

The FoundationCCC Workforce Development team recently launched a three-part webinar series to advance work-based learning across California’s community colleges. The series brings together college leaders, faculty, and staff to share strategies, build connections, and work toward a true statewide community of practice.
Work-based learning has seen growing interest and investment across the system, and this series builds on that momentum. The three webinars lay the foundation for community college professionals to continue learning from one another throughout the year. This session focuses on how institutions are addressing the practical challenges of work‑based learning, from funding models and paid opportunities to employer engagement. Featuring perspectives from college staff and employers, the discussion centers on actionable strategies that support implementation while maintaining quality, equity, and impact for students.

As interest and investment in work‑based learning grow, alignment matters more than ever. In this session, we will examine policy, funding, and workforce signals shaping WBL, elevate existing statewide resources, and surface persistent gaps. The focus: identifying opportunities for stronger coordination across priorities, strategies, and supports to amplify local efforts and drive collective impact.
These webinars are intended for community college leaders, staff, and faculty who are engaged in or interested in expanding work-based learning opportunities at their institutions. The series reflects FoundationCCC’s ongoing commitment to supporting students across California’s community colleges while strengthening the pathways that connect education to careers and expanding the opportunities available to every student.
