Supporting Undocumented Students with Art and Allyship

FoundationCCC recently partnered with west coast artist and muralist Stevie Shao in support of Undocumented Student Action Week (USAW) 2024, commemorated with a unique poster project.

This collaboration culminated in the USAW closeout event at Woodland Community College, where attendees received screen printed 18 x 24” posters, designed as symbols of unity, strength, and resilience for undocumented students, staff, and allies.

The vibrant poster, created by Shao, encapsulates the message that the undocumented community remains unafraid and adaptable in the face of challenges. The posters serve as art but also an important reminder of the ongoing commitment to support undocumented individuals facing persecution and discrimination.

USAW is a collaboration between FoundationCCC, the Board of Governors, the Chancellor’s Office, the Community College League of California, and many statewide advocacy organizations. With the largest population of undocumented students in higher education, the California Community Colleges are crucial in ensuring that all students, regardless of immigration status, have the opportunity to pursue their career and professional goals free from institutional barriers or discrimination.
