Exploring the Impact of AI on Education

The California Education Learning Lab (Learning Lab) recently launched a new online publication, where leaders will share fresh insights on pedagogy, education policy, and the transformative role of generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) in teaching and learning. This platform will serve as a hub for thought-provoking discussions and expert perspectives on the future of education.
The first post features a guest commentary from David Bressoud, offering a fascinating look at the history of math instruction—and how AI could change everything. It’s a must-read for educators, students, and anyone curious about the evolving landscape of learning.
“AI is unmatched as a vehicle for anyone seeking to learn mathematics on their own, to delve into some deeper aspect of mathematics. It is not just its ability to tailor explanations to the individual. It can endlessly produce examples of tremendous variety and at different levels of complexity. Whatever you want to learn, AI can or will be able to teach you.” — David Bressoud, Dewitt Wallace Professor Emeritus, Macalester College; Fellow, American Mathematical Society; and Fellow, American Association for the Advancement of Science
Learning Lab is an initiative of the State of California and is administered in partnership with FoundationCCC. Learning Lab’s mission is to improve learning outcomes and close equity gaps across the state’s public higher education systems, particularly in the STEM disciplines. Their efforts leverage technology tools and the science of human learning to foster student success in online and hybrid learning environments.
Anyone interested in exploring the intersection of AI and education is invited to subscribe and share this new resource with colleagues and peers.
