Carina Giorgi

Carina Karapetian Giorgi, is a sociology professor at Antelope Valley College. Their work largely focuses on the roles of Southwest Asian cultures, history/memory, genocide studies, gender, queer theory and transnational feminism(s). With extensive experience (20+ years) in teaching, research, and academic leadership, they are committed to advancing sociological understanding through both scholarship and public engagement. They have served as a faculty member for the Rising Scholars/prison incarceration education program. As well as leading the Pride Center at Antelope Valley College as a faculty coordinator. Additionally, they instruct research and critical inquiry courses at Pomona College’s PAYS college bridge program every summer. Their current research examines the intersections of intuitive/ancestral knowledge, identity, Armenian-American culture, queerness and generational forms of trauma and mysticism. As an educator, Professor Karapetian Giorgi is dedicated to fostering critical thinking and encouraging students to tap into an empathy based ethos in order to holistically understand real-world challenges. They have presented their work at academic conferences globally, collaborated on interdisciplinary research initiatives, and mentored students at undergraduate and graduate levels.
