Emilie Mitchell


Dr. Emilie Mitchell (she/her/hers) is an equity-focused educator/administrator specializing in inclusion and belonging in higher education for LGBTQ+ people. Dr. Mitchell currently serves as the Dean of Social and Behavioral Sciences at Cosumnes River College. She formerly served as the Pride Center Faculty Coordinator at American River College and the LGBTQ+ Liaison at Los Rios Community College District. She also serves on advisory committees relating to LGBTQ+ students for the California Community College Chancellor’s Office and as the lead planner for the California Community College LGBTQ+ Summit.
Previously, Dr. Mitchell served for almost a decade as a tenured faculty member in psychology at American River College. She earned a doctorate in social psychology from the University of California, Davis and a master’s degree in psychology from California State University, Long Beach. She has presented at several professional conferences on serving the needs of LGBTQ+ students in the community college system. She is one of the lead authors of the recently released book, Queer & Trans Advocacy in the Community College. In addition to her work, Emilie is a dedicated mother of two children, a partner and proud lesbian, an avid home improver and Darwinian gardener, a passionate educator, and a social justice activist.
