Emilie Mitchell

Dr. Emilie Mitchell (she/her/hers) is an equity focused educator/administrator specializing in inclusion and belonging in higher education for LGBTQ+ people. Dr. Mitchell currently serves as the Dean of Social and Behavioral Sciences at Cosumnes River College . She formerly served as the Pride Center Faculty Coordinator at American River College and the LGBTQ+ Liaison at Los Rios Community College District.,. She also serves on advisory committees relating to LGBTQ+ students for the California Community College Chancellor’s Office and as the lead planner for the California Community College LGBTQ+ Summit. 

Previously, Dr. Mitchell served for almost a decade as a tenured faculty in Psychology at American River College. She earned a doctorate in social psychology from the University of California, Davis and a master’s degree in psychology from California State University, Long Beach. She has presented at several professional conferences on serving the needs of LGBTQ+ students in the community college system.. She is one of the lead authors of the recently released book, Queer & Trans Advocacy in the Community College. In addition to her work, Emilie is a dedicated mother of two children, a partner and proud lesbian, an avid home improver and Darwinian gardener, passionate educator, and social justice activist.
