Lisa Macafee

Counselor

Lisa Macafee (they/she) is a non-binary, disabled, autistic counselor currently navigating her role as a generalist and SAC Pride! Counselor serving LGBTQ+ students at Santa Ana College. As a first-generation college graduate, Lisa is still the only one in her family to earn a college degree. She loves learning and is excited to finish her PsyD in 2024. Lisa’s academic focus revolves around autism and gender studies, spurred by her observation that many transgender individuals she knows, particularly those identifying as non-binary, also qualify as autistic. It turns out it’s not a coincidence and she has been studying the correlation ever since.

Lisa holds a master’s in educational counseling from National University, a bachelor’s in social sciences from UC Irvine, and an associate’s degree from Saddleback College. She lives with her two autistic kids, a very supportive partner, and a shy cat. Lisa is working towards her Doctor of Psychology degree to better advocate for autistic adults and runs a website and blog about being autistic at www.AffirmingNeurodiversity.com.
