Martin Covarrubias

Martin Covarrubias (he/they) serves as the Program Manager for Educational Justice Programs at Río Hondo College, where they oversee the Pride Scholars, Black Scholars, and RISE Scholars programs. A proud Río Hondo College alumnus, Martin is deeply committed to creating equitable and affirming educational environments that foster student success, belonging, and empowerment. Prior to their current role, Martin served as the part-time counselor for the Pride Scholars Program, supporting LGBTQIA+ students through counseling, advocacy, and resource connection. Their work centers on advancing equity and opportunities for LGBTQIA+, justice-impacted, and other historically marginalized student populations through culturally responsive programming, leadership development, and community partnerships. Martin holds a Master of Science in College Counseling and Student Development from Azusa Pacific University and is passionate about supporting students with intersecting identities. They are honored to serve on the CCC LGBTQ+ Advisory Committee and contribute to advancing LGBTQIA2S+ student success across California’s community colleges.
