Rachel Bates

Rachel Bates, serves as Vice President of Academic Affairs at Lake Tahoe Community College. With more than 25 years of experience in higher education as a faculty member, department chair, dean, state-level higher education administrator, and chief academic officer, she is committed to expanding educational opportunity and fostering student success. Rachel holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Instructional Leadership and Academic Curriculum with an emphasis in Mathematics Education and has led initiatives in academic innovation, workforce development, accreditation, guided pathways, and equity-centered student support. As a first-generation college graduate, veteran, and member of the LGBTQ+ community, she is passionate about creating learning environments where students and employees can thrive as their authentic selves. Rachel is honored to serve on the California Community Colleges LGBTQ+ Advisory Committee and contribute to advancing belonging and inclusion across the system.
