Tafari Alan (he/she/they) is a Black genderqueer student whose focus in direct service, community building, and equitizing policy to create more accessible systems, especially in higher education, has become the center of their work. Transferring from Santa Monica College to UC Berkeley as a Gender Studies major in the Fall, they will continue to focus on trans liberation, racial justice, and the dismantling of inequitable systems.

With extensive experience as a student leader and representative, serving two years in Associated Students of Santa Monica College, and a long-time member of SMC’s Student Equity Center Advisory Committee and Pride Advisory Committee, Tafari has sought out every opportunity to advocate, educate, and represent the communities they inhabit. With the goal of one day returning to the community college system that served them, they wish to become an educator to further serve and help others flourish authentically.
