Yih Ren

Faculty and Program Coordinator for the Queer Community Center

Yih Ren is an educator, researcher, and faculty leader dedicated to advancing equity, belonging, and student success in higher education. He serves as Faculty Coordinator of the Queer Community Center at Laney College, where he founded the center by securing grant funding, developing programs, and creating affirming spaces for LGBTQ+ students. He also teaches English for Speakers of Other Languages courses as an Adjunct Faculty member at Laney College and City College of San Francisco, supporting multilingual learners through inclusive and student-centered pedagogy.

Yih’s research explores queer identity, migration, language, and education. His doctoral dissertation, Reclaiming Yet Ongoing: A Two-Part Phenomenological Study of Chinese Queer Diaspora in the U.S. through a Queer Literacy Workshop Series, examines the lived experiences of Chinese queer immigrants through community-based learning. His scholarship has been published in journals including the Journal of Language and Sexuality and presented at national and international conferences such as AERA and CIES.
