Leading Innovation in Nursing Education

This year, Cuesta College has demonstrated how strategic investment can transform nursing pathways and student success.
Cuesta College has made history with the launch of California’s first accelerated 12-month Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) to Registered Nurse (RN) pathway at a community college. It is currently the only program of its kind in San Luis Obispo County. In December, the program proudly graduated its inaugural cohort, marking a major milestone in the college’s efforts to innovate nursing education and respond to critical workforce needs. This pioneering program offers a streamlined path for working LVNs to earn their RN licensure in just one year, removing traditional barriers such as long program waitlists and extended timelines. By creating a fast-track route to career advancement, Cuesta College is expanding access to education while helping to strengthen the nursing pipeline in California and beyond.
Funded by the Nursing Education Investment Grants Program, Cuesta College’s successful program highlights the importance of fostering creative solutions to persistent challenges in nursing education and the transformative potential of targeted investments in the field.
Administered by FoundationCCC, the Nursing Education Investment Grants Program continues to support innovative approaches to nursing education throughout the California Community College system.
