Filipinx California Community College Collaborative

A Statewide Network of Support
Historically, support for Filipinx California Community College students has been shaped by students and educators developing programs that responded to local needs. Learning communities such as Kababayan (Skyline College), Bayan Scholars (Southwestern College), Tulay Student Success Program (City College of San Francisco), Katipunan (College of San Mateo), and Kasaysayan (Napa Valley College) are important examples of this impactful and transformational work.
The goal of the Filipinx Community College Collaborative is to build on the foundation laid by these programs to create a connected network of statewide support for Filipinx students, faculty, classified professionals, administrators, and allies.
The Filipinx California Community College Collaborative’s Work and Impact
Supporting California Community College Professionals
Although the Filipinx California Community College Collaborative was inspired by work with Filipinx students, its central purpose is to act as a statewide support network for Filipinx faculty and staff at California Community Colleges. This network allows professionals to build connections outside their own institutions to share knowledge, resources, and practical solutions to challenges.
A statewide network also creates space for professionals to explore issues specific to the Filipinx community: what it means to be a Filipinx educator or professional, how culture and identity show up in this work, how Filipinx professionals navigate institutions, and how this community can support one another while serving diverse student communities.

Professional Development, Mentorship, and Leadership
A core function of the Filipinx Community College Collaborative is to offer professional learning that is useful to people across roles while examining how Filipinx pedagogy, experiences, histories, and ways of relating inform work at community colleges. The statewide network created by this collaborative provides opportunities for mentorship and leadership development and collaboration across colleges.
Advancing Vision 2030
Vision 2030 is organized around three goals: equity in access, equity in success, and equity in support. The Filipinx Community College Collaborative contributes to each of these goals.
Equity in support: Professional development, mentorship, cross-college relationships, and leadership development can strengthen the capacity of instructors, classified professionals, counselors, and administrators to create more responsive institutions.
Equity in access: Declining Filipinx enrollment makes access a direct concern. The Filipinx Community College Collaborative can address this directly by helping colleges understand where Filipinx students are being lost on the pathway to community college, strengthen relationships with high schools and community organizations, and share outreach approaches specific to Filipinx communities.
Equity in success: Curriculum, counseling, mentoring, identity, belonging, and transfer support can work together. The Filipinx Community College Collaborative helps colleges learn from these approaches while paying closer attention to persistence, completion, transfer, and degree attainment for Filipinx students.
