Native American California Community College Students Scholarship

About the Scholarship
The Native American California Community College Students Scholarship was launched in 2024 through a generous donation from the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians. The program was administered by the Foundation for California Community Colleges (FoundationCCC) in partnership with the California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office. It provides direct financial support to students enrolled in a federally recognized Native American, American Indian, or Alaska Native tribe and attending a California Community College.
Why this Scholarship Matters
With limited scholarship opportunities available for Native American students statewide, this program filled a critical need by making college more affordable and accessible. Awards were made on a first-come, first-served basis, helping students pay for tuition, books, supplies, and technology—so they could stay focused on their educational goals.
“The scholarship has greatly impacted my educational goals with internet at home…The scholarship means greatly to me on a personal level. There are scarce resources for Native Americans in scholarships…With inflation at a high in everyday purchases, the scholarship was a very big help.”

Building the Future
The FoundationCCC and its partners recognize the significant unmet need for scholarships among Native American students. While this program provided essential support in 2024, many students expressed the need for continued assistance to reach their transfer and degree goals.
Looking ahead, FoundationCCC will continue to explore ways to:
- Expand Scholarship availability to more students and colleges
- Strengthen partnerships with tribal nations and philanthropic organizations
- Ensure equitable access to the resources students need to succeed in higher education
