Student Centered Design Lab – Services

Centering the student voice through every stage of design

Every project begins with understanding real experiences from the people who use our tools and systems. While our roots are in improving the student experience, we apply the same human-centered design and research practices to support a wide range of audiences, including educators, administrators, and community partners.

We integrate user input throughout the design process, combining qualitative insights and quantitative data to guide strategy, usability, and implementation. Our work is grounded in equity-centered, human-centered design and informed by accessibility best practices.

Research

We uncover how students interact with tools, systems, and information through:

  • Quantitative methods: usability testing (to evaluate and compare performance), analytics reviews, search log analyses, user surveys, and message testing.
  • Qualitative methods: user interviews, diary studies, card sorting, tree tests, and formative usability testing to identify opportunities for improvement.

Design

We turn research insights into actionable design strategies that improve real-world usability and engagement.

  • Design workshops and sprints
  • Persona development
  • Empathy, journey, and experience mapping
  • Wireframing and prototyping

Expert Review

Our evaluations measure usability, accessibility, and competitive positioning to ensure designs are intuitive and inclusive.

  • Heuristic and accessibility evaluations
  • Usability audits
  • Competitive landscape reviews
