Filipinx Community College Collaborative Joins FoundationCCC as Impact Partner

The Filipinx Community College Collaborative, a statewide network of Filipinx administrators, faculty, and staff building and sustaining Filipinx learning communities and student success programs across California’s 116 community colleges, has joined the Foundation for California Community Colleges (FoundationCCC) as its newest Collaborative Impact Partner.
The organization’s work spans three areas: supporting Filipinx students through access, belonging, and transfer; supporting Filipinx professionals through mentorship, professional development, and leadership pathways; and building statewide capacity through collaboration and disaggregated data. These priorities align with Vision 2030’s three goals: Equity in Access, Equity in Success, and Equity in Support.
As Filipinx Community College Collaborative’s fiscal sponsor, FoundationCCC will provide the nonprofit infrastructure, including financial management, compliance, human resources, and operations, so Filipinx Community College Collaborative can focus on what it does best: leading its own planning and programs for Filipinx students and professionals.
“Filipinx Community College Collaborative grew from Filipinx educators showing up for one another and for our students, long before there was a statewide structure. Partnering with FoundationCCC lets us carry that spirit of kapwa, our shared sense of community, forward with the support to connect colleges, mentor the next generation of Filipinx professionals, and make sure our students are seen and supported on every campus,” said Dr. Naomi Querubin-Abesamis, Dean of Student Development and Wellness at Riverside City College, who serves as Filipinx Community College Collaborative’s President/Chair, leading a 2026-2029 Advisory Council of faculty, staff, and administrators from across the system.
Modeled after statewide initiatives such as Puente and Umoja, Filipinx Community College Collaborative centers belonging, support, and educational equity for Filipina/x/o American students.
Several colleges now operate established Filipinx programs, including City College of San Francisco (home to Philippine Studies since 1970), Skyline College, Southwestern College, College of San Mateo, and Napa Valley College. The Collaborative connects these efforts and supports colleges that do not yet have a dedicated program.
“The California Community Colleges exist to open doors of opportunity, and Vision 2030 challenges us to look closely at the data so that gains across the system don’t hide what is happening for particular communities,” said Dr. Rowena M. Tomaneng, Deputy Chancellor of the California Community Colleges. “As a first-generation immigrant from the Philippines and a community college transfer student, I know how much it matters when a college community reflects your story. The Filipinx Community College Collaborative builds on decades of local leadership and gives that work a statewide home, connecting colleges, educators, and students around access, success, and support. I am proud to welcome Filipinx Community College Collaborative as a Collaborative Impact Partner of FoundationCCC.”
