Nitasha Kaur Sawhney Reappointed to FoundationCCC Board of Directors

SACRAMENTO, CA- The Foundation for California Community Colleges (FoundationCCC) is pleased to announce the reappointment of Nitasha Kaur Sawhney to its Board of Directors for a second four-year term from May 2026 through May 2030. Her appointment was approved today by the California Community Colleges Board of Governors.

Sawhney has served on the FoundationCCC Board since May 2022 and currently serves on the Board Executive Committee and as Chair of the DEI Board Advisory Committee. During her tenure, she has been a valued leader and advisor to the Board, helping strengthen the organization’s governance and strategic leadership in support of California community colleges and students.

As Chair of the DEI Board Advisory Committee, Sawhney has played a key role in deepening the Board’s focus on equity and ensuring that diversity, equity, and inclusion commitments are reflected throughout governance and organizational strategy. In her role on the Board Executive Committee, she also serves as the Board’s legal representative, providing trusted counsel on governance, compliance, and risk considerations.

“Nitasha’s leadership, legal expertise, and commitment to civil rights and public service have been invaluable to the FoundationCCC Board,” said FoundationCCC President and CEO Keetha Mills. “We are grateful for her continued service and look forward to the impact of her leadership during her second term.”

Sawhney is an equity partner at Garcia Hernández Sawhney, LLP, where she specializes in education, labor, and employment law. She brings extensive experience advising public school districts, community college districts, and other public institutions on governance, policy, labor relations, ethics, and strategic planning.

Sawhney earned her Juris Doctor from the University of California, Davis, and her Bachelor of Arts from the University of California, Berkeley. She also holds Associate of Arts degrees from Orange Coast College and Irvine Valley College, where she served as Student Trustee on the Board of the South Orange County Community College District.

The FoundationCCC Board of Directors provides governance and strategic oversight for the organization’s work to benefit, support, and enhance the missions of the California Community College system and promote equitable outcomes for students statewide.
