Creating Pathways to Success

Through the Pathways to Success Project, a work-based learning initiative made possible by the strategic partnership between FoundationCCC’s Career Catalyst employer of record service and the California Department of Rehabilitation (DOR), students with disabilities are gaining clear, supported pathways to high-demand careers.
Tiffany, a student at Sacramento City College, represents what is possible when targeted support and cross-sector partnerships align around student success.
Tiffany always had a strong interest in science, but like many transfer students, she faced uncertainty about how to continue her education and shape her interests into a career. Through outreach at the Sacramento City College Disability Center, Tiffany connected with the Pathways to Success Project, which provided the structured guidance, advocacy, and financial support needed to navigate the system and take action.
“The biggest insight I’ve learned was that I can do it. I see a future ahead of me now.” — Tiffany, Student, Sacramento City College
Leveraging the strength of the Career Catalyst-DOR partnership, the program addressed academic and logistical challenges, ensuring Tiffany could fully participate as a hard-of-hearing student. This included securing a paid, three-month internship at Genentech in the histopathology department and supporting her daily commute via train and ferry.
Tiffany’s internship experience sharpened her career focus and contributed to measurable academic and professional achievements, including being named MESA Student of the Year, earning a Laureate Scholarship, and making the Dean’s List. She is now on track to graduate on time, has earned certificates in histotechnology and optical microscopy, and is preparing to apply to a master’s program.
Tiffany’s experience reflects the broader success of the Pathways to Success Project: when cross-sector partners align resources and expertise, students gain access to opportunity and clarity for the future. FoundationCCC plays a central role in supporting and scaling initiatives like this, leveraging its partnerships and resources to ensure students have access to the opportunities, mentorship, and guidance they need to achieve their career goals.
