Repairing Bicycles as a Path to Economic Stability

A recent article published in the Imperial Valley Press highlights Community Cycles of California, a transformative program redefining mobility and opportunity for individuals facing significant barriers to employment.
Through the program, 10 justice-impacted individuals in each cohort gain full-time employment for six months. They learn how to run a business by learning how to repair bicycles and then turn around and sell them. Recipients also receive a reliable mode of transportation to reach work, school, and essential services. The ripple effect is significant—reducing barriers to economic stability, promoting healthier lifestyles, and contributing to a greener environment.
The article highlights individuals whose lives have been positively changed through the program, which focuses on collaboration and community-centered solutions in addressing systemic challenges.
Community Cycles of California is a recipient of a Breaking Barriers to Employment Initiative grant, administered by FoundationCCC on behalf of the California Workforce Development Board. The initiative aims to provide individuals with barriers to employment with the services they need to enter, participate in, and complete workforce preparation, training, and education programs aligned with regional labor market needs through innovative approaches to addressing racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic disparities.
