California Community Colleges Are Creating a More Inclusive Future

On July 17, FoundationCCC’s Equity Department hosted the inaugural California Community Colleges LGBTQ+ Advisory Committee retreat at our headquarters in Sacramento, bringing together leaders and advocates from across the state to chart a path forward for LGBTQ+ equity and inclusion.
Now in its third year, the CCC LGBTQ+ Advisory Committee unites administrators, classified professionals, faculty, and students from throughout the California Community College system. Members bring a wealth of perspectives, lived experiences, and affinity group connections, ensuring that the committee’s work remains inclusive, intersectional, and grounded in the diverse realities of LGBTQ+ communities on California campuses. The retreat served as a forum to strengthen relationships, foster collaboration, and lay the groundwork for key priorities, including preparations for next year’s CCC LGBTQ+ Summit.
Formed from a small dedicated group committed to organizing the Summit, the committee has since earned formal recognition by the Chancellor’s Office, and has received accolades for its leadership, including last year’s honor from the Association of California Community College Administrators. Its influence continues to grow, with more than 100 applicants vying each term to serve and advance this important work.
Current and past members’ vision and dedication continues to drive progress for LGBTQ+ communities statewide. Their passion and expertise help ensure that the initiatives we champion are representative of and responsive to the diverse voices we serve. Together, we are building on this momentum as we look toward an even more impactful 2026 LGBTQ+ Summit.
