About the Foundation Board

Purpose: The purpose of the Foundation board is to exercise fiduciary oversight over the Foundation in determining appropriate performance, as well as govern and oversee policy, direction, leadership, fund development, and general promotion of the Foundation.

Structure: Foundation board members are nominated by the current Foundation board and appointed by the Board of Governors. Maximum board size is eleven, including two members of the Board of Governors. The Foundation typically operates with nine total active members leaving two open seats for flexibility. Board Members serve four-year terms, with a limit of three consecutive terms, for a maximum of twelve consecutive years of service.

EXPECTATIONS:

Members of the Foundation’s board are generally expected to:

  • Prepare for, attend (in person), and conscientiously participate in quarterly meetings
  • Know the organization’s mission, policies, programs and needs
  • Communicate and promote the Foundation’s mission and programs
  • Participate on committees of the board as assigned by the Board Chair
  • Leverage connections, networks, and resources to develop collective action to fully achieve Foundation's mission
